quiet morning & the calamity
Sean Ramos established himself as a staple of the Houston music scene where for years he had drummed in a variety of the city's best bands. Somewhere in the mid to early aughts Sean also started a solo folk project playing under the name Quiet Morning. As he expanded his own catalogue Ramos also expanded the project to a full band and Quiet Morning & the Masters of Death were formed in the fall of 2007. However, with the loss of the band's original drummer moving out of state for school the project was again amended to what we know and love today as Quiet Morning & the Calamity.
Over the years, Quiet Morning & the Calamity has seen further line up changes, always with Ramos at the helm. 2014 finally saw the release of their debut EP Son of the Sad Soul which was supported by QMATC's first national tour. Now having a taste for the road Ramos continued to expand beyond Houston, around Texas and the rest of the country, both with the band when he could and solo as needed. It was after one such solo gig in the Texas Hill Country that Sean experienced a near fatal car accident.
As part of his recovery process Sean quit his office day job to pursue music as a full time business. In addition to very nearly finishing QMATC's sophomore release he also fully immersed himself performing with local theaters. His drive led to opportunities as a music director, sound designer, and theater work both in and beyond the Houston scene. In 2019 Ramos packed up the cat and moved to New York where until the pandemic he'd been busy with live off-Broadway productions and across the Northeast. Lately Sean has been writing, producing, sound designing, and voice acting in his original audio drama "This American Wasteland."
He still finds time to occasionally pick up his guitar, and rumor has it Sean has been writing new songs. However, it's yet to be determined if this will be a new batch of for Quiet Morning or another new project. Keep up with all his auditory endeavors online at www.srsounddesign.com.
